Got a headache? Try Marshalltown PM!

Have a headache of a problem? Can’t sleep? Call on Marshalltown PM for the solution to your community concerns. Started 25 YEARS AGO, June 14, 1983, this is the baby club of the Marshalltown Kiwanis family. We call them rebels WITH a cause—for kids, for Marshalltown, for you! The club now meets in the room off the Hy-Vee deli, 802 S. Center St., every Wednesday evening at 6:30.

Marshalltown PM relieves those community aches and pains through its donations of money and/or volunteer hours given throughout this past year:

· ACCAN (Child Abuse and Neglect)

· Salvation Army

· Big Brothers/Big Sisters Christmas Party

· Pediatric equipment, MMSC emergency room

· Preschool sponsorship

· Mowing the bike/jog path

· Contribution to student eye care program

· Reroofing Little League baseball dugouts

· Sponsoring youth wrestling team

· Ditch cleanup of Highway 14 south of town

· Young Children: Priority One projects

Plus many other projects annually

The Marshalltown P.M. club gives to the community through our members’ dedicated efforts. Since its organization our club members have generously raised approximately $ in funds and donated over  service hours.

The club’s major fund-raiser is Tiny Tim’s Tree Festival. This is a three-day project with proceeds used for Young Children: Priority One projects. YC: PO is Kiwanis International’s major emphasis program that targets the needs of children from before birth through age 5.

The club has between 40 to 60 entrants who provide decorated trees. First ($500), second ($300) and third ($200) place winners are chosen by the popular vote of those attending the festival. The winners donate their prize money to worthy causes that have included local schools, daycare centers, and eyeglasses for the needy.

During opening day of pheasant hunting in October, we work with the other two Marshalltown clubs to put on Pancake Day.

On the first Sunday after Easter, we host the annual State Cribbage Tournament. Some people call this card game England’s greatest contribution to Western Civilization.

We mow West End Park, located on N. 13th St. Fifty percent of the profit goes back to buy playground equipment for the park.

In addition, the club holds two (2) garage sales each year.
